VARD staff present at H.U.D. New Partners for Smartgrowth and the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute Annual Conferences

It continues to be a busy spring for Valley Advocates for Responsible Development. On February 14, 2014, VARD Program Director and Staff Attorney Anna Trentadue presented the results

of VARD’s four year Reshaping Development Patterns effort at the 2014 New Partners for Smartgrowth Conference hosted by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in Denver, Colorado. Trentadue’s interactive workshop and presentation was entitled, Zombie Subdivisions: Can you restore, reincarnate, kill or prevent them?

Then, on March 14, 2014, Trentadue presented for the third time at the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute’s annual conference hosted by the University of Denver School of Law. Trentadue’s co-panelists were former Teton County Planner Angie Rutherford who is now a project manager with the Sonoran Institute, and Professor Stephen Miller with the University of Idaho School of Law. Structured as a “lesson learned” interactive workshop, their presentation was entitled: Planning in the Wild West. Why is it so hard?

Both conferences provided VARD the invaluable opportunity to share tools and best practices for addressing premature and obsolete developments with some of the best land use planners and practitioners in the United States.
