Revision of the Planned Unit Development ordinance
In November 2008 the Teton County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved revisions to the county's Planned Unit Development ordinance. The new ordinance will do far more to preserve the rural character and rich natural resources of Teton Valley. For example, for the first time there are regulations for protection of wildlife habitat based on the scientific data and mapping of the Teton Regional Land Trust and Idaho Fish & Game.
The PUD ordinance was updated with the assistance of a Clarion & Associates, a planning firm with experience in other Western communities similar to ours. VARD served on the PUD working group, which represented a cross-section of the community, and worked over a 6-month period giving input to Clarion on how the ordinance could be improved. VARD advertised and reported on the series of public hearings held by the county, and educated the public about the importance of the revision process through radio and newspaper advertizing, a special section PUD section on the VARD website and a county-wide flyer.
