As the year comes to an end, we are taking the time to look back in gratitude for how far we have come and for the community that saw us through to this point.
We often say that our work isn’t glamorous; it takes patience, methodical planning, and understanding that some victories only come slowly and through hard work. This year, VARD attended and provided public comments at dozens of public hearings, partnered with local nonprofits to protect our wildlife corridors, and met with community members and representatives alike to discuss potential developments and policies. Our scope of duties is ever changing and makes it clear that the work we do is many things.
Our work is fulfilling. This summer we, alongside our Teton Creek Corridor Partners and Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, welcomed the community to celebrate the ecological restoration of Teton Creek and the art created by Derek No-Sun Brown. This project represents our community's connection with the land and strength of our collaborative powers.
Our work is vital. As the final piece of the Yellowstone to Yukon wildlife corridor, the place we call home is an essential part of wildlife habitat. From subdivision proposals encroaching on delicate ecosystems to the environmental impact that would accompany the Grand Targhee expansion, we analyze all developments to ensure that our community grows responsibly in a way that benefits both people and nature.
Our work is far from over. We will be bringing all of our knowledge we have gained this year into 2026 to continue to advocate for our open spaces, wild places, and vibrant communities. Thank you for supporting our work—our work is possible because of you.
With deep gratitude,
VARD Staff & Board
