VARD was one of eight recipients of Idaho Smart Growthﾒs annual ﾓGrow Smart Awardﾔ. VARD received the honor in the Community Advocacy award category for ﾓefforts to encourage vibrant communities through sensible planning, design, and leadership.ﾔ Specifically, Idaho Smart Growth recognized VARDﾒs work with the City of Driggs. VARD has brought numerous resources to the city that have contributed to the excellent quality of the new Driggs comprehensive plan. For example, VARD played a lead role in organizing the Your Town workshop in July of 2004, funding the Downtown Driggs Design Charrette in November 2005, and most recently, in October of 2006, securing a growth management technical assistance grant from the EPA. These efforts contributed to the excellent new Driggs Comprehensive Plan. VARDﾒs Program Director, Sandy Mason was in Boise on November 17th to receive the award on VARDﾒs behalf.
Idaho Smart Growth is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Idahoans about the consequences of current development patterns and the alternatives to those patterns and engaging them in activities that encourage thoughtfully planned development and exemplary development policies.
